The CENTRAL CONNECTICUT HORSESHOE CLUB has
relocated from Manchester Ct. to East Hartford Ct. Here are the directions from all major
highways.
We have 8 NHPA sanctioned courts that are constructed in the same manner as those used in World Tournament play. We are open from 12pm-10pm Monday-Friday. Week-end hours are 10am-8pm. On a NHPA Tournament week-end the courts are open at 8am.
We offer the sport of horseshoe pitching played at whatever level you care to play, from the friendly backyard game all the way to tournament level. Whatever your ability you will find someone at the courts who can challenge your game. Our pitchers range in ability from barely 10% all the way to World Class players who exceed 80% ringer averages.
We are fortunate to be in an area where several World Class players are within driving distance of the courts. We are lucky to have seen our sport played at its highest level on many occasions. Although we are just starting our 2nd season of play, we have been privileged to witness a 100% game shot, and we have also seen several exceeding 80% on the day in our tournaments. While World Class pitchers do add credibility to our courts, the majority of our pitchers are just average players bent on enjoying a good game of shoes. Many have found their way to the courts that knew little about the NHPA or the CHPA. Most of them have since become members of both, and many of them have joined us out on the New England tournament trail this past summer. The desire amongst all players at every level to improve their pitching skills, seems to be a common thread that binds us all. Whatever measure of success we've enjoyed to this point, we owe to the fact that the friendly atmosphere that is common at most horseshoe events thrives here. It has been most rewarding to provide a place that has brought so many pitchers from many different circles together.

In addition to open pitching we offer leagues that meet in the evenings during the week. These leagues are run on a handicap basis allowing pitchers of all abilities to compete with each other. On the strength of the equity in our leagues due to handicap system we are planning a tournament for our league players based on the same handicap system. Even though this is a new idea the interest in such a tournament appears high enough that it will become a regular part of our program. Should that become the case we will make room on this page for both the results and its format for those who might be interested in trying something similar.
Besides open pitching and league play we offer regular NHPA sanctioned tournaments held twice monthly. All tournaments are run on a computer with standings available on a round by round basis for pitchers and spectators alike. Results of the tournament are sent over the net to Jim Hanson, who handles our New England stats, as soon as the tournament is completed. In turn the updated averages for each pitcher is returned to us usually the next day. This insures that all pitchers are seeded according to a current and accurate High 3. Hopefully someone will come up with a similar method of updating NATSTAT averages, which usually lags several tournaments behind our NESTATS. Thanks Jim, for a great job on a thankless task that makes every NE tournament directors job a far easier one. Here's a picture of Jim and a link to his wonderful web page.
Here is a list of our tournament schedule, and results.
We also hold blind draw doubles tournaments on
Sunday's at 1pm on the non NHPA weekends. In addition to open
pitching on non tournaments week-ends the courts are available
for practice most days from 12 noon to 6 pm before the evening
leagues.
The Following is our Rate Schedule
NHPA Sanctioned Tournaments ....$20 *
NHPA Sanctioned Leagues ............$7
Open Practice ..............................$5
(Unlimited time courts permitting)
* NOTE: Those who pre-enter both tournaments in
the calendar month the price will be $15 for each. We are making
every effort to keep the costs down. The cost of leasing, heating
and lighting a building large enough to house the courts is not
cheap. When that cost is shared by many it gives us a place to
continue to play the sport we all love during the long New
England winter. With most states in New England charging $20 per
tournament to pitch outdoors we feel our prices to play in a
heated, well lit building are very reasonable.
Besides the court area there is a place to enjoy a snack, beverage, and some quiet conversation away from the action. We also have a pro-shop (Horseshoes Plus) in the building run by Skip Gerber. Skip has just about everything imaginable relating to the game of horseshoes. In his shop you'll find items ranging from shoes, hooks, straight edges, shirts, jackets and instructional videos all the way to jewelry.
